Meet the Leadership Team

Rev. Matt Nault

Matt was born and raised in Ocean Beach and is a San Diego native. He lives in North Park with his wife, Florence, and three boys: Benjamin, Levi, and Joshua. Matt loves basketball, visiting craft breweries, beach sports, triathlons, and hanging with his neighbors on 29th St. He first became part of the North Park community in the mid-1990s as a high school student at Saints. Since then, he’s graduated from the University of San Diego with degrees in Mass Media Communications and Theology and also earned his Master’s Degree in Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. He’s ordained in the Reformed Church in America. Before planting Renew San Diego, Matt planted and pastored a congregation in center-city San Francisco. Before that, he was a minister with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at the University of San Diego and the University of San Francisco.

Florence Nault

Children’s Ministry Director

Florence was born in San Diego and was raised throughout southern CA, Tijuana, Puerto Rico, and Malaysia. She loves traveling, hiking, reading a good book, eating delicious food, cooking, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family. She lives in North Park with her husband, Matt, and three boys: Benjamin, Levi, and Joshua. She graduated from SDSU with a BA in Liberal Studies (Elementary Education) and taught in various capacities for 13 years in San Francisco. In 2009, she became a Children’s Ministry Director for a church plant in San Francisco. Since their move to San Diego in 2017, she has enjoyed re-connecting with family, friends, and sunshine. She now welcomes children into a space where they can come closer to God in community at Renew’s Children’s Ministry.

Julius Obregón Jr.

Music Leader

Julius is a singer-songwriter who currently calls San Diego his home. Having grown up with a father who was both a Filipino recording artist and a pastor, Julius has always had a deep connection to music and to the church. His wide range of musical influences (jazz, blues, soul, indie, folk, etc.) reflects his journey of learning to be conversant in many different cultural and social contexts. Although Julius has lately focused on singing and songwriting, he considers the guitar to be his primary instrument, and takes great joy in exploring sounds and textures through his electric guitar setup. To catch updates on when Julius might be playing or releasing new music, follow his Instagram account or find him on Spotify under the artist name Julius Obregon, Jr.

Sky Noblezada

Music Team

Sky doesn’t remember a time she wasn’t a singer.  Her love of music has taken her from street performances to roles at Disney World, from playing large stages to intimate bistros and cafés.   Originally from North Carolina, Sky packed her guitar in her car and drove west, playing city to city on her journey to San Diego, where she shares her music on Sunday mornings at Renew, and throughout the week playing all around the city.

Kimo Shim

Music Team

Watching Kimo play percussion, it’s evident he sees music as a spiritual experience.  He doesn't merely play music, he feels it. And his passion is contagious. Originally from the San Francisco Bay, Kimo nurtured his love of music as a break dancer and hip-hop DJ before adding percussive skills.  He plays all around the city with bands ranging from blue grass to hip hop, from latin to rock and roll. Kimo is a devoted dad and often you will find his son, Ke’Koa dancing to his beats on Sunday mornings.

Ben Roberson

Music Team

A friend invited Ben to check out Renew, and he’s been a beloved member of the community ever since!  In addition to creating music, Ben loves deep thinking and craft beer, and is a member of a super artsy and boutique music collective called the Black Couch Band.
